Job start: September 2019

This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly improving special school, which will join the Unity Schools Partnership multi academy trust from June 2019.

We are excited to be building on our recent appointment of a permanent Headteacher by strengthening our senior leadership team further. At this exciting time for the school, we want to appoint a talented, and aspirational Deputy Headteacher to work with the Headteacher and governors in leading the school to the next level.

You will have a comprehensive understanding of teaching, learning and assessment in a special school setting, alongside the skills to lead, monitor and evaluate the improvement of learning and teaching across all phases of the school. You will require the skills and thorough understanding to lead all aspects of highly effective safeguarding across the school and beyond, contributing to a focused, safe and inclusive learning environment. In addition, you will have a track record of working with parents, carers and external agencies to support the EHCP process and evaluate and monitor outcomes.  You will have excellent communication skills to support all stakeholders of the school alongside a strategic yet flexible approach to school leadership.

The Bridge Special School is a popular school educating children and young people between the ages of 3 - 16 who have a wide range of communication, physical, and profound and multiple learning difficulties. Many of the pupils are on the Autistic Spectrum. The school serves a catchment area that covers Ipswich and surrounding areas of Suffolk. The whole school is based on one campus, with the primary building constructed and opened in 2015 and the construction of a new, purpose-built secondary unit planned for this year.

The school will be part of a collaborative, forward thinking Academy Trust of 23 schools.  Unity Schools Partnership will be creating a network of special schools working together as we have recently been approved to open new special schools in Ipswich and Romford, as well as already having a special school in Haverhill.  You will be supported in your role by experienced special education leaders who will be available to offer and advice and guidance as the school moves forward under your leadership.

Training opportunities are significant due to the presence of a teaching school (Suffolk Borders Teaching Alliance) at the heart of the trust which is driving outstanding opportunities for professional development, research, teacher training and collaboration between schools and across phases.
