This is an exciting opportunity to join a rapidly improving special school, which will join the Unity Schools Partnership multi academy trust from June 2019.

You will be a senior leader with a track record and understanding of Good or Outstanding provision and can demonstrate excellent leadership and managerial skills. These will be complemented by good interpersonal skills along with successful inter-agency working. Your understanding of the curriculum and assessment for children with severe special educational needs will be essential. You will be required to develop a clear vision for the future of the school and what will set you apart will be your commitment to achieving high standards of teaching and learning and your passion for improving outcomes for students with SEND.

We are welcoming applicants who have a passion for educating children with SEND and will use their experience to create a special school that staff, students and the local community are proud of.

The Bridge Special School is a popular school educating children and young people between the ages of 3 - 16 who have a wide range of communication, physical, and profound and multiple learning difficulties. Many of the pupils are on the Autistic Spectrum. The school serves a catchment area that covers Ipswich and surrounding areas of Suffolk. The whole school is based on one campus, with the primary building constructed and opened in 2015 and the construction of a new, purpose-built secondary unit planned for this year.

The school will be part of a collaborative, forward thinking Academy Trust of 23 schools (with plans to have a group of four special schools).  Unity Schools Partnership will be creating a specialist network of special schools working together as we have recently been approved to open new special schools in Ipswich and Romford, as well as already having a special school in Haverhill.  You will be supported in your role by experienced special education leaders who will be available to offer and advice and guidance as the school moves forward under your leadership.

Training opportunities are significant due to the presence of a teaching school (Suffolk Borders Teaching Alliance) at the heart of the trust which is driving outstanding opportunities for professional development, research, teacher training and collaboration between schools and across phases.

For more information, to arrange a visit or an informal discussion about the role please contact Malcolm Reeve, Director of SEN by email mreeve@unitysp.co.uk or phone 07769653181.
