As a popular and successful school we are seeking to appoint an enthusiastic, hardworking Head of English to lead the teaching of English across the school.

Attainment has risen in English at Key Stage 4  but we can see opportunities to build on this to further raise levels of progress for all students. We provide A Level courses in English Language and Literature which provides excellent progression for our students and opportunities for our staff.

The English department comprises a strong and professional team of 14 committed practitioners dedicated to ensuring the progress and success of the students in their charge.

In September 2015 the school moved into an award winning new building, where English is taught on a single floor. We also have a separate Sixth Form centre for our thriving Key Stage 5 students.

The team is experienced, very supportive and expectations for students are high.

The school continues to invest in high quality professional development and provides a range of employee benefits. We are closely linked to the Unity Research School and lead the way in many local and national initiatives including being an EdTech Demonstrator School and being an ArtsMark platinum school. We are looking for someone who:

  • Has experience of teaching English at Key Stages 3 to 5
  • Has a record of raising attainment of their students
  • Has an up to date knowledge of curriculum developments
  • Is committed to high standards and ensuring that all groups of students make progress
  • Is willing to work flexibly
  • Has excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Is able to solve problems and be proactive
  • Has an excellent sense of humour
